The Department of Physics came into existence in 1964. Prof. H S Venkataramaiah, Head of the Dept along with Dr. Ramaswamy and Prof. H R Ananthapadmanabha Shetty of BMS College of Engineering established the department. The department has 3 different labs to cater all the 3 years of BSc students. The department being the oldest right from the inception of the institution, promotes the holistic development of the students by motivating them to participate in various academic and co-curricular activities.

The faculties provide a comprehensive understanding of the topics by preparing students for advanced studies and research. To meet the industry demands, students are exposed to practical applications which help them to improve scientific and critical thinking. Students develop a strong foundation in the concepts which paves way for their career growth in various field like IT sector, research institutes, banking sector, Government job, teaching and various fields. The main objective of the department is to make women self-reliant and confident.
