BMS College for Women’s ideology of "Ondu Goodina Hakkigalu" was installed during this year’s Janapada Jaathre on 07 February 2020 in the college premises. The entire campus was festooned with a rustic vibe. It all began with a procession of “GRAMA DEVATE” in the ‘Theru’ along the bylanes of Basavanagudi. It was also a fitting occasion to consecrate Lord Ganesh in the premises. Around 1200 students participated in the event.
Objectives
Janapada Jaathre was conducted to highlight the stability and integrity of Joint family tradition and culture by conducting various local activities like, Panchayat katte, Desi foodstall, Farming concept, Ragi Heap Pooja, Santhe , folk songs and dance ,Gowshala, Bull Temple etc. The intention was to communicate to the society that “ Do Hard work like a labourer enjoy the fruits like a king”(Aalige Dudi Arasagi Unnu) Relationship of members in the Joint family is like the farmer and the farming field. This is the Tag line for BMS – Goodina Hakkigalu.
The Context: Indian folk culture has a great legacy and is a matter of pride which should be carried from generation to generation by recreating a rustic environment in the midst of the city. BMSCW has taken the initiative to spread awareness and inculcate the folk values as a part of institutional social responsibility
Joint Family: Shows the unity ,integrity ,solidarity, and Sacrifice of the family . Accordingly joint family event was also conducted which made the students to have attributes like unity integrity solidarity, and understandingamongst each other in the student community also for a common purpose/ goal.
Farming: All the required farming aid tools were exhibited which showed by our students to move towards farming ,which leads to Swayam Udyog Culture among students
Gurukula: The ancient tradition of education concept "Gurukula" was exhibited to show “Guru and Shishya” relationship and Teaching Learning skills
Panchayat Katte: event was conducted to show the ancient method of Nyalaya to give judgement by the local leaders irrespective of Caste, Creed, Colour and position
Physical Health and Body Fitness: This event was also conducted to tell the students about the significance of physical Health and Body Fitness, This also helps in maintenance of the physical and emotional well being of a person.
Gowshala: Establishment of Gowshala is very important concept as per Indian ancient tradition. Accordingly this event was also conducted . As we all know we people pray and perform pooja to a Gowmatha because several Gods and Goddesses live in Gowmatha , Cow Milk, Cowdung, Gowmootra is considered as divine and have many medicinal values.
Fair: It is an event where in the items grown by the local farmers are sold .This event was also conducted by our students which highlighted the local market mechanism in the fair
Food Stalls: "Good Food is the part of Good Culture" Hygienic food is required for Good Health. Accordingly an event called food stalls were conducted and our students prepared many local and traditional food items which were really hygienic and good for everyone
Aravattige is a concept where water was freely given for those people who use to walk from one place to another to quench their thirst when there were no proper transportation facilities to travel far places. In our janapada jaatre 2019-20 we introduced the Aravattige concept where jaggery juice and Butter milk was given to general public freely, between 11 a.m - 1.00 p.m. we distributed to many people which includes general public and parents.
Cultural Activities
"Music and Dance are the divine activities which makes even a stone to melt", Accordingly many folk songs and dances were conducted which combine the physical and mental emotions of a human being. The events conducted by our students were:- Folk songs and Folk dances like soligara Kunitha, Suggi Kunitha, Lambani Kunitha , Goravara Kunitha , Somana Kunitha, Karaga (Bangalore is very famous for this event and we have Dharmaraya Swamy Temple in Bangalore) Pooja Kunitha, Kangilu,Veeragase, Yakshagana
The Practice: Principal formed the core committee for Janapada Jaathre 2019 celebrated on 07.02. 2020 consisting of Convener: Dr Sheeladevi S Malimath Associate Professor Dept of Kannada Treasurer: Mrs Rachana, Department of Commerce. The core committee members along with Principal formed various other committees for the smooth conduct of the Jaanapada Jatre All the convenors along with Principal and senior staff discussed the Chief guests for the Jaanapada Jatre.

The actjvities of all the events were published in many Newspapers like Times of India, Deccan Herald, Vijaya Karnataka, Prajavani, EE Sanje, Rajasthan Patrika, Udayavani , Samyuktha Karnataka, Vartha Bharathi. It was also Telecasted in electronic media – TV channels Digvijaya, Chandana on the same day of the event.
